This month, in honor of Black History Month, we take a look at the ID’s of every station (plus some HD side channels and translators) under the ownership of Silver Spring, Maryland-based Urban One.
Urban One was founded in 1980 by Cathy Hughes with the purchase of WOL-AM in Washington, D.C. Over the next 42 years, the company grew into the largest African-American controlled media group in the United States. Currently, the company owns 54 radio stations (and also operates one more via local marketing agreement) in many major to mid-size markets, primarily in the eastern United States. The company also owns two low powered television stations in Indianapolis and Columbus, plus the cable TV network TV One.
