Hashed And Icetea Labs Join Forces Towards A Common Goal In

Published

on

Seoul, South Korea, Jan. 21, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Hashed and Icetea Labs, as strategic partners, will co-build a self-sustainable, interoperable, open metaverse and GameFi ecosystem in the long run.

Since the latter half of 2021, GameFi and metaverse have driven the crypto market; henceforth, a dozen of crypto games have launched per month and led to a wider selection of games that users can choose from. But as one delves deeper into this space, crypto games are actually facing hardships in implementing a sustainable in-game economy. Simultaneously, even emerging metaverses are extant only on trailers, casting doubt on the wide discrepancy between vision and reality. The market is starting to see faltering games with a short-term focus and an unsustainable in-game economy.

Sharing a common vision and understanding of the potentials for and challenges to the future of GameFi and metaverse, Hashed and Icetea Labs shook hands to form a strategic partnership without termination dates.

To be specific, the two strategic partners will explore the details to cooperate closely in an on-hands manner in GameFi and metaverse with regard to R&D and financing, ranging from infrastructure layers, platforms, and services, to interoperable flagship products, supporting the full lifecycle of games and metaverses (i.e. tokenomics design, launch plan, marketing, and etc.).

The strategic collaboration is expected to fuel the overall growth of the gaming and metaverse industry, especially in the Asia Pacific.

Jun Park, Investment Associate at Hashed focusing on crypto investments through the eyes of gaming: “In reality, the number of crypto games that are officially launched with meaningful daily active users is low. I have noticed faltering projects which were not able to converge their vision and reality at the end of the day. From 2022 along with Icetea Labs, I hope to see and will actively search for genuine GameFi projects with the following, non-exhaustive traits: 1) fair game mechanics; 2) play-to-earn through time-based efforts; 3) circular economy with low treasury intervention; 4) gaming fundamentals being fun at its core.”

Edward Hong, Head of Growth at Hashed: “SEA(Southeast Asia) is the region with the fastest-growing adoption of blockchain games and GameFi. It is mesmerizing that blockchain games like Axie Infinity are now entirely transforming the economic patterns of people living in the region. Through this partnership, Hashed will work closely with Icetea Labs in the region to actively discover founders and support them to create a new value.”

Thi Truong, founder of Icetea Labs: “Blockchain gaming and metaverse industry suffer if companies just want to take away from it rather than contributing. There are many missing pieces and supporting systems that need to be built seriously and with a long-term vision in mind. In 2022 and the years to come, Icetea Labs devotes itself to research and experiments of sustainable economic models, designing cross-game and cross-metaverse mechanisms, building workforce and inhabitants for metaverses, and collaborating on infrastructure effort. We are very happy to work together with Hashed, one of the most visionary leaders in crypto space, on this journey.”

Hashed is an early-stage venture firm focused on blockchain protocols. Led by serial entrepreneurs and engineers, Hashed focuses on expediting global blockchain adoption through strategic investments and community building. Based in South Korea, San Francisco, Singapore and Bangalore, Hashed has cultivated industry-defining web3 founders around the globe by accelerating protocols such as Terra Money, Axie Infinity, Klaytn, Link, and The Sandbox. Hashed additionally operates metaverse studio UNOPND and Korean cryptocurrency custodian KODA.

Icetea Labs is a notable gaming and metaverse incubator and enabler in Asia – the world’s most exciting blockchain gaming and metaverse community. Operating two of the best performing launchpads, GameFi.org and Red Kite, Icetea Labs has advised, strategically invested, and launched many high profile games and metaverses such as Bloktopia, Sidus, Solice, etc. Icetea Labs also owns Mirai game studio, and is working closely with several industry-leading partners on critical gaming and metaverse initiatives.

Sony Reveals Vision for the Metaverse

Published

on

PS Home PlayStation Home 1

You’ve probably heard of the metaverse by now. While this is a buzzword for virtually every major organisation on the planet, there are various different definitions of what it actually means. For Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook hellscape, it’s an interactive world that you’ll socialise and go to work. Sony’s concept, fortunately, is a little less dystopian.

Speaking as part of a corporate strategy meeting, CEO Kenichiro Yoshida of course touched upon the concept – and believes his company is well-placed to play a leading role in the emerging trend. As part of his keynote, he referenced Fortnite several times, explaining how subsidiaries like PlayStation, Sony Pictures, and Sony Music have all contributed to the Battle Royale to create interactive experiences.

Yoshida’s vision of the metaverse is a “social space and live network space where games, music, movies, and anime intersect” – all products that Sony has an active role in, of course. He was clear that his concept of the metaverse is one where people come together to share “time and space” – a virtual concert, for example.

While he stopped short of revealing any specific products, he spoke at length about PlayStation’s plan to develop ten live service games, and how Destiny developer Bungie’s expertise will help influence its efforts. Effectively, it sounds like the company intends to leverage its various multimedia divisions to create interactive experiences that unite all aspects of its businesses.

Metaverse & AR/VR creation platform for kids

Published

on

Over the past 6 months, Hatch Kids has grown organically to 1.1M+ users across 150 countries via school, government, and ed-tech partnerships, with 75% of users coming from US and Canada. Other top geographies include UK, Australia, and India. Students have created 3.6M+ projects on the platform to date.

Speaking about Hatch’s vision, Camp K12’s co-founder and CEO, Anshul Bhagi, said “There are 100m+ kid coders out there today using a variety of free coding platforms to learn coding by building games and apps. These platforms are incredibly effective and they set the stage for the kids coding movement back in 2007, however the vast majority of them are restricted to 2D project creation, built for the age of smartphones and flat screens. As technologies like AR and VR go mainstream, we need to upgrade the tools that kids learn on and that educators teach on for modern-day use cases and content formats. We built Hatch as a kids coding platform for the age of the Metaverse. We want to give 100m+ young kids their first AR/VR creation experience and the self-confidence to be builders in the inevitable Mixed Reality future rather than passive consumers of it.”

The platform is being used today by governments (including the Government of Delhi, in India), and 100s of schools and ed-techs across the globe. In December, Hatch Kids was featured on Code.org as an “Hour of Code” activity and today has grown to be the #1 most popular activity for students from Grades 6-8 and the #3 most popular activity overall in the Code.org “Hour of Code” ecosystem.

The team expects 2M+ MAUs by December 2022, powered by both direct-to-student consumption, as well as partnerships with 1500+ schools, ed-tech, and additional government bodies worldwide by year end.

About Hatch Kids:

Hatch Kids is a free online creation platform for kids that makes it possible for students spanning ages 6 to 18 to create 3D, Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Metaverse experiences with ease, in an age where kids are captivated by 3D games like Roblox and Minecraft and yet the mainstream kids coding platforms are still restricted to 2D project creation.

Hatch Kids supports all K-12 age groups and experience levels. Younger students and first-time coders can create using a visual, blocks-based programming environment similar to that of MIT Scratch, while older or more experienced students can create advanced 3D applications using JavaScript. Students can instantly publish and share their creations to millions of supported devices including iPads, smartphones, professional VR headsets, laptops & desktops via a simple QR code scan or a link share.

Educators, organizations, and parents can use Hatch Kids to teach Coding and other STEM subjects to kids in the most immersive manner (kids learn best when they are engaged, and nothing is more engaging for a child than the act of creating 3D worlds he/she can walk around in and share with friends). Hatch Kids is iPad and Chromebook compatible for use in schools.

About Camp K12:

Camp K12 is a global online school for 21st century skills, teaching Coding and other STEM topics to kids aged 5-18 via LIVE, interactive, gamified online sessions that work 10x better than status quo. The company has raised $16M to date, led by Elevation Capital and Matrix Partners India, and serves 400k+ students across North America, Middle East, India, and South East Asia.

About the Creators

Anshul, Camp K12’s co-founder and CEO, has been passionate about building kids programming tools and making programming easy and fun for kids for over a decade. He studied computer science at MIT, has previously done development roles at companies like Google and Microsoft, and was part of the team at MIT that developed “MIT AppInventor” a free online platform that gave kids the power to design, code, and publish Mobile Apps to smartphones without any prior experience.

AppInventor today is used by 13M+ students worldwide, and in the age of Smartphone development, was the first platform to make mobile app creation accessible to children. Anshul is hoping to repeat that feat for the age of Metaverse and AR/VR today with the creation of Hatch Kids.
